About the Journal
Kontrapunkte is an open, peer-reviewed journal published in multiple languages in an online blog format. Its purpose is to stimulate discussions revolving around music education in group contexts and to promote a wide diversity of positions and opinions found within this discourse. This journal brings together submissions regarding music education from a practical perspective (ex. lesson planning concepts and methods, current views on the teaching and learning of music, perspectives from teachers and learners) as well as scientific (empirical, theoretical, critical) exploration.
An authentic exchange of views is necessary to meet the demands of proper discourse. All participants in the field of music education are therefore invited to submit their views on pertinent subjects. Initial articles as well as responses and commentaries to those articles will be critically reviewed and published six months after initial publication. Three types of submissions are accepted: initial articles, commentaries, and critical reviews. An initial article, subsequent commentaries on that article, and a critical review create a unified publication that is then permanently archived with open access using a single DOI identifier.
We look forward to polyphonic discussions regarding issues in music education and encourage all those (teachers, students, practitioners, researchers, professors, etc.) who participate in the field to contribute. Our editorial team will approach potential authors for contributions of initial articles. However, proactive potential authors are also welcome to submit ideas of their own initiative. In this case a member of the editing team would coordinate publication. We wish to encourage diversity not only in content and perspective, but also in the medial form in which submissions take place: texts, podcasts, videos, and other or hybrid formats are welcome and encouraged. We recommend highly that potential authors contact our team early in the writing process (ideally even within the phase of conception). Because the publication of certain media is a new experience for our team, we do request that especially those articles that are to be submitted in a form other than pure text be discussed with us beforehand.
