Types of contributions
Three types of submitted materials that pertain to one another (an initial article, commentary, and a critical review) will be combined into a single publication.
Initial Article
Initial articles are accepted in English and in any of the official languages of Switzerland. An abstract or trailer will be added to the beginning of the article in English as well as in a second Swiss language. Prior to publication, the article will be reviewed by an editorial committee to ensure that all submissions are held to set journalistic and ethical standards. If discrepancies in these areas occur, the author will be asked for a revision. Evaluations proceeding from peer review will be provided to the author. A biographical sketch of the author (max 300 characters) will be published together with the article. Initial articles cannot have been previously published elsewhere.
Commentary
One of the main priorities of this journal is serious academic discourse. Therefore, we are pleased to include not only articles, but the reactions to their content, and therefore we encourage all participants in various fields of music education to submit commentaries. The original author has then the liberty to craft a reply in the form of an additional commentary. Commentaries are accepted in any official language of Switzerland or in English. We consider such commentaries to be an integral part of the journal; therefore they will also be held to the same set of journalistic and ethical standards as the initial articles. Commentaries should be based off in-depth and thorough consideration of its reference material.
After undergoing an editing process, commentaries are released online, usually within 5 business days. Linguistic errors occurring within those commentaries submitted in text format will be corrected without contacting the author. When in doubt, a member of the editorial team will communicate with the author, possibly delaying the commentary’s release. In the case of a breach of ethical standards, of errors found within fact-checking processes, or of personal attacks against other authors, the editorial team will contact the commentator in order to clarify possible errors and misunderstandings before publication occurs.
Critical Review
Initial articles will be combined with all pertinent commentaries approximately six months after publication of an initial article. This synthesis will be written by the editor/s and is not considered a separate contribution with new content, but serves rather to highlight the discourse itself. A critical review consists of descriptions of the various positions found in (or that were notably absent from) the discussion, an outline and appraisal of the developmental flow of the arguments, recognition of emergent scopes of application, etc. Critical reviews are to be submitted either in an official Swiss language or in English along with a summary in an additional Swiss language or English. Critical reviews represent a deliberate genuine academic study of discourse in pertinent subjects relating to music education.
